Whilst living in London, I found a company called Lovefilm which (back then) worked on a novel concept of hiring DVDs through the post. How it worked was that you would sign up; create a wishlist of titles you’d like to watch; select how many DVDs you’d like to keep at any one time; and as and when watched movies are returned new titles would be posted out. Genius!

Now, the British postal service is super quick so this makes it a very attractive option over there. Our postal service, (which I have immense faith in, and am constantly impressed by) although a day or two slower (i.e. 3 working days) does not make a viable choice from a postage point of view - more time would spent waiting for the DVDs to arrive than getting your money’s worth. Shaving: the bane of our baby-butt smooth existence. We all have to do it (except the French and most Mediterranean countries of course) but if you tot up the associated costs every month, shaving becomes quite a costly necessity.

Hack away at the bird aimlessly and you’ll be left with a tiny little pile of scrap meat that you’d think twice about feeding a cat. Carve in the measured manner detailed below and you’ll end up with fat slices of prime white poultry and several arched eyebrows …

Once cooked, take the bird out of the oven and let it cool, breast-side up, for at least fifteen minutes. This allows the fibers to relax, which makes carving through its flesh far easier, and which in turn clearly makes you look like you know what you’re doing. You’d be forgiven for thinking that Badminton is a rather dreary slow paced sport, a sport better left to those shuttle-cock peddling Koreans and British. But what if there was something similar but that didn’t need any setting up, additional ‘hardware’, could be played anywhere and didn’t attract derogatory remarks from your friends everytime you mentioned it - let alone played it.

Well, there is! And it’s called Speedminton, and set to take South Africa’s beaches, rooftops, parks (if you’re luck enough to still have one not littered with poop and syringes), parking lots and backyards by storm.

It’s simple and fun to play, but tricky to master - and boy is fast- up to 260kph if you were wondering.
