How To Use A Straight Razor

Grooming, Tips No Comments »

When it came to slashing customers’ throats, popular nineteenth-century barber Sweeney Todd put his faith in the straight razor-one quick slash of the trusty blade and the unfortunates were ready to be turned into rancid pies by ‘Mad’ Marge Lovett, his hoary accomplice. The customers he didn’t butcher left his shop after the closest shave of their life, and to this day whisker experts declare the straight razor to be the best a man can get. It remains highly dangerous, so approach with caution… Read the rest of this entry »

Shave 400% Off Your Razor Bill By Going With A Safety Razor

Grooming 1 Comment »

Shaving: the bane of our baby-butt smooth existence. We all have to do it (except the French and most Mediterranean countries of course) but if you tot up the associated costs every month, shaving becomes quite a costly necessity.

For those blade shaving aficionados or those that enjoy the masculine ritual each day, refill cartridges for your Gillette razor aren’t cheap, and what’s more is that once you buy the latest Mach® 427 (or whatever it is they’re up to these days), after the ‘complimentary’ cartridge supplied is finished, they’ve got you by the short and curlies - that you ironically are trying to get rid of.

A bold statement though that you can shave 400% off your shaving bill, I know. But take a look at the following calculation; and work on the basis that after the initial purchase of the safety razor that 4 months down the line you will start to see the savings. But these then become a lifetime saving.

Ok, so the math of saving a small fortune on shaving: Read the rest of this entry »

Hairstyle Tips For Men

Grooming, Style 3 Comments »

While the temptation to throw on a peak hat and call that your hairstyle is great, just taking a little more effort and finding out which styles are current and which match the shape of your face can do wonders for your image and esteem. Not to mention giving your sense of style a much needed boost.

Should a man change his hairstyle every season?

Why not? Clothes change, so does hair. Everything’s in sync. Don’t forget, though: Only go for hairstyles that suit your face and features. Just because the faux hawk is in style one season, it doesn’t mean a man with a long face should wear it. Read the rest of this entry »

How To Shave: The 3 Steps Your Dad Never Mentioned

Shaving is one of those bitter-sweet rituals that proves to be quite essential (and on an almost daily basis) here in the modern world. Unless of course you’re a Yeti or Keanu Reeves, in which grooming (or acting lessons) aren’t really a top priority. Some of you however were fortunate enough to have this invaluable skill passed on down from your pops or some other equally masculine figure that showed you the long and short of it all - but if you weren’t as lucky, you had to figure it out on your own and what a bloody mess that must have been.

Funny how as teenage boys we all wanted a thick, masculine, mature and rugged looking full beard. Then as fully grown thick, masculine, mature and rugged adults the very thought of having to shave each morning brings about a 5-o-clock shadowed sigh of menial resentment. Thankfully though, no resentment for me as I’ve managed to recently turn 27 and still only have facial hair comparable to that of a post-pubescent Spanish schoolgirl. However, I must say that I do enjoy shaving, I love the masculinity of the ritual and that post-shave “fresh” feeling that makes you want to hop a foot in the air and cluck your heals together in a Chaplin-esque delight. Shave Oil: Why Should I Use It?

Grooming, Reviews No Comments »

Shaving oils are considered a little counter-effective when it comes to proven relief from razor bumps, razor burn, pimples, and ingrown hairs - “I mean it’s an oil isn’t it?”

Shaving oil, like the American Crew Lubricating Shave Oil 50ml is an oil, but contains a blend of essential and nourishing herbal ingredients that will not only (and have been proven to) soften your beard, but soothe razor burn and prevent painful and unsightly ingrown hairs from appearing on that pristinely shaved mug of yours. If you travel or leave town quite a bit, you may already realise that it’s not always convenient (and / or possible) to take your entire collection of toiletries, skincare items, fragrances etc with you, as space is always at a premium.
