Size: 11x7.8x7.8cm Attributes: 1x glow brick Weight (packaged): 0.91 Kg's

No batteries needed for this eco friendly night light, simply place the brick somewhere it can receive daylight (during the day) and watch it begin to glow as night falls. Makes a perfect glowing ambient light that needs no looking after.

Manufacturer's description:

The Glow Brick has to be the next best thing to remote-controlled lighting. In fact, we'll stick our neck out and say that it's even better, because you don't have to lift a finger to switch it on.

A strangely lovely phosphorescent light bulb is entombed in a clear acrylic brick, which lounges about by day, quietly soaking up solar energy, then takes centre stage by night.

At dusk, the light starts glowing all green and mysterious, showing an awesome staying power throughout the darkest hours. The overall effect is of a disembodied shining light bulb suspended in mid air, which, you'd have to agree, is not something you see every day.

On a functional level, it makes a handy, low-maintenance security light. On a frivolous level, it's a jolly nice talking piece for people who like to talk in dark rooms.

Hi Andrew,

Most glow in the dark product's light sensitive element will glow brighter based on the light source. Sunlight being one of the strongest and easily available. However, placing the bulb next to a light source such as a bedside lamp (eg before getting into bed) for a few minutes, will also charge the brick.

dear Editor,
in the product description it clearly says "soaking up solar energy" that doesnt come from a bedside lamp! How practical is it to leave your bedside lamp on during the day anyway?

Hi Andrew, the best way to 'charge' the brick is with bright artificial light, because as the sun begins to set the charge (and brightness) declines. Placing it on your bedside table (underneath a lamp) would be the ideal solution.
